Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is an American British sitarist and musician. She received the British House of Commons' Shield as the youngest, and the first female to receive it. Apart from the nine Grammy awards and nine Grammy nominations, she also became the very first Indian-origin musician to be a presenter and performer at the award ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is among India's rising stars in the sitar. She is the child of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She was born 1982 in London. Her early years included a period of time between London and New Delhi. At the age of 13 she staged her debut performance in New Delhi. Then she relocated to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is an aspiring young lady, but she has a very impressive career in singing and recording. She regularly performs together with her dad, and has performed with him for quite a number of years. Her debut single album Anourag in 1998. The following year, she released the Grammy nominated album Live on stage at Carnegie Hall. Alongside performing at every major venue as well, she has an extensive stage presence. Anoushka isn't only a singer. She also published Bapi the love of my life in the year 2002. The book is a biography which pays tribute to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, she has acted. In 2003's film Dance Like a Man, where she played an Bharat natyam dancing young girl. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising star and her career is expected to continue growing. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent the majority of her early years in London and Delhi after which she moved to California in the state where she attended the high school. From the age of nine she began her studies in music under her father making her performing debut on the sitar four years later, at the celebration of his 75th birthday in Delhi. Her father traveled around the globe with her, and she was able to gain many new experiences. When she was still at her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall during Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concert. The youngest female to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, presented by British Parliament as recognition of her talent and musicianship within the Asian Arts.
